The Convenience of Command Strips and their Multiple Uses

Have you seen the 3M Command Strips commercials on television yet? If not, you will probably start seeing them soon. With the holidays coming up, their commercials are a little more frequent then throughout the rest of the year. I personally swear by these hooks!

You may be unsure how to use the strips differently from how they are shown on television. Or maybe you are a skeptic and don’t believe they work as well as they do. If so, let me show you some possibilities where you can use them or show you ideas that can inspire you to utilize these hooks in your own way.

The options are endless! In many cases, that can be why it’s overwhelming to use them. My tip is to start with one or two ideas and then to let yourself be inspired for future uses around your home.

Here are some of my ideas

Kitchen

For a few years now, I’ve gotten into the habit of hanging my Norwex counter cloths to dry. I didn’t like to have them visible in the kitchen yet I wanted them to be accessible. I added a laminate adhesive to the inside of the cupboard door closest to our kitchen sink and then added some hooks above it. That way, I can hang my damp cloths without them damaging the inside of the cupboard door and they are hidden.

We also hang a cloth for our little one. For instance, when there is a mess or his hands need to be cleaned, he knows where his cloth is and can easily access it. Getting your toddler involved keeping the house clean is always fun.

I love using the inside of our cupboards as extra space. It’s a hidden spot yet it’s practical. I also use the hooks in our plastic container cupboard to hang our silicone lids. That way, when we go to reach for a plastic container, we see the lids and will use them instead of plastic wrap or containers (when we can) for leftovers, etc.

Mudroom

I’ve also gotten into a habit of hanging my Norwex mop pads in our mudroom closet. That way, they are visible and easily accessible when I look into that closet and it’s a place where I can hang them to dry. These hooks are great for cleaning supplies as it makes them visible and easily accessible.

No room for a hand towel holder? You might want to consider a Command hook. We have one in our mudroom/laundry room inside our bottom cupboard door and I like it. For more laundry room organization ideas, check out this post.

Miscellaneous

Last year, it was our first year in our new house. When Christmas came, we wanted to hang our Christmas stockings but weren’t sure where to hang them so… I got the idea to use the Command hooks that I had on hand (some were initially silver but painted black to match our decor style) and hang our stockings. It was a non-permanent idea which was perfect for us being that we had just moved in.

The Command clear hooks are also great for lights when you need to hang them around something without any permanent hooks having to be installed in the wall.

I’ve also recently used them to hold electrical cords around my work station so that I wouldn’t lose them being my desk when unplugged or to make the light switch of my desk lamp more accessible. Clear ones would have been better but it’s not what I had on hand.

Bathroom and/or closet

I’ve recently added one behind our bathroom door. I wanted to add a hook to hang my clothes on when planning for the next day. I didn’t feel like there was enough space in our closet so I just added it to back of our bathroom door. What is great about this products is that, if I ever change my mind, I can always change the location of the hook.

The hooks could also be used in the bathroom to hold towels or even jewelry either in the bathroom or in your closet. The possibilities are endless!

Decor

The velcro strips are great for home decor. Based on the weight of your item, make sure to pick the appropriate one.

I used these strips for chore charts in our little ones bedroom, a sign in our guest room, a poster in the playroom as well as for our weekly menu in our kitchen. Look how sleek and clean it looks. You can hardly tell that a Command strip is what is holding up this these frames.

Bathroom

At one point, we had one on the side of our bathroom vanity for our little one’s toilet seat. When it was not in use, we could hang it close to the toilet for easy convenience. This way, if you went to the bathroom, you didn’t have to sit on the toddler toilet seat.

Outdoor

I even used one outside on our bar cart to hang a fly swatter close to our outdoor table on our deck. Again, with it being conveniently positioned, our little one can grab it if he needs to and help out when bugs are bugging us.

The hooks are also great for vehicles to hang a small garbage or bag for trash. This comes in handy with kids or pets in the car.

More uses

These are not only for the walls, although most of them are, but they also have some for hanging on the ceiling. Say what??!!! This would be great to string lights or even to attach a canopy on the ceiling above a bed or a chair.

If the ideas I’ve listed here don’t speak to you, you can find plenty of ideas on Pinterest as well as on the 3M Command Strips website.

On their website, you can see all the different styles and colours they have. You can even select a few and compare them to see their differences. This would be great if you are unsure of which ones to use for specific ideas in your home. You can also narrow down your search by weight, size, purpose or material the hook is made out of.

Perks

There are many different types of hooks for different uses and different looks to suit your style and purpose. You can either have your hooks blend in to your home decor or add to it. They are very versatile and easy to use.

Without coupons

If the above mentioned stores are not convenient for you, you can always find the hooks at other stores. I’ve recently discovered that the hooks were sold at Dollorama. I was surprised and very happy about that because I’m a little bit obsessed with the Dollorama store. I’ve also seen them at Staples, WalMart and Canadian Tire. You could also order them online through Amazon if you have an account.

The possibilities are endless! They are great for apartments, rental homes or even just for walls that have been recently painted. They could also be very useful for people who are indecisive when hanging decor. You can put it up and try it out. If it doesn’t work out them you can remove it without damaging anything or having to repair the wall.

Regardless of the reason for their use, the hooks are amazing! They are a great tool for anyone who would like to be organized. Do you have any intentions to use these hooks? Let me know in the comments section below.
